Advanced Dentistry for Your Comfort

A joint vibration analysis, also known as JVA, is a technique our dentist can use to identify and diagnose issues with your joints, particularly the temporomandibular joint. This procedure is most often used to monitor the progress of our patients with temporomandibular disorder (TMD). JVA works by using specialized JVA computer software to record and analyze the vibrations made by your joints which cannot be heard with ears alone. A joint that has experienced previous damage or which has changed over time will likely create friction that can be heard in the vibrations they emit. This is why some patients with TMD complain of popping or clicking in their jaw. A healthy TMJ is well-lubricated and produces little friction or vibration.

When you visit KORsmiles DENTAL for joint vibration analysis, Dr. Korinne Grieger will begin by positioning a headset over the joints in question, such as the TMJ and jaw. Our dentist will then ask you to move that joint around to begin recording any vibrations or sounds the joint makes when it is in motion. This can help our team track the progress of a joint disease or identify the slightest fiction before it becomes a larger issue.
